This calendar is presented by Suburban Cyclists Unlimited, and lists recreational bicycle events that take place within approximately 150 miles of Horsham, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Sun. Sept. 3, 2017, Bike4Beds Fall Event, Valley Preferred Cycling Center (Trexlertown Velodrome), Breinigsville, PA. Moved to Sun. Oct. 8. (Updated 7/24/17.)

Sun. Sept. 3, 2017, Hell of the North, Flemington, NJ. Ride 30, 62 or 100 mi on the beautiful back-roads of hilly Hunterdon and Warren Counties. Benefits Avery's Hope, a non-profit organization that raises money and awareness for families with children with rare gastrointestinal diseases.

Sun. Sept. 3, 2017, Peter ODell Ride to Brooklyn. Start from Philadelphia, New Hope, or two locations closer to Brooklyn. Ride 50, 70, 90 or 130 mi one-way. Registration includes showers, refreshments and snacks at a hotel in Brooklyn, and transportation back from Brooklyn for you and your bike. The registration deadline is 8/23/2017. Sun. Sept. 3, 2017, Tour de Farm Sussex County, Augusta, NJ. Ride 14, 26 or 65 mi with breakfast and farm tastings included with registration.

Mon. Sept. 4, 2017, Donut Derby, Valley Preferred Cycling Center (Trexlertown Velodrome), Breinigsville, PA. 36-mi fun race on a figure-8 course with the donut zone in the middle. For each donut you consume, you get 3 minutes deducted from your actual ride time, to get your D.A.T. (Donut Adjusted Time). Pre-registration only! Lehigh Wheelmen Association

Mon. Sept. 4, 2017, Labor Day Century, Irishtown Fire Company, New Oxford, PA. Ride 25, 50, 62 or 100 mi through scenic Adams and York Counties. Ride the new 30-mi high rock challenge. Hanover Cyclers

Sat. Sept. 9, 2017, AJ Foundation Ride for Autism, Yardley, PA. Ride 12, 18, 31 or 62 mi over the rolling terrain of Bucks County. Registration includes continental breakfast and a full lunch. Benefits the The AJ Foundation For Children With Autism and the Comprehensive Learning Center.

Sat. Sept. 9, 2017, Amish Country Bike Tour, Dover, DE. Ride 15, 25, 50, 62 or 100 mi on flat terrain. Mass start at 8:00am with police traffic control through Dover - riders have the right-of-way with no stopping at traffic lights or stop signs for the first 3 miles, or show-and-go start 7:00-10:00am without police traffic control.

Sat. Sept. 9, 2017, Amish Country Classic Bike Ride, Bird-in-Hand, PA. Scenic 12-, 23- or 62-mi routes through the Amish farmlands on rolling terrain. The 62-mi route includes the 440-ft climb (in 2.2 miles) up Welsh Mountain with a short break in the middle. It is very steep for a short section, but the average grade is 3.9%. There is an option to bypass the climb, but doing so also bypasses the first rest stop. Benefits the Paradise Rotary.

Sat. Sept. 9, 2017, Civil War Century, Thurmont, MD. The Civil War Century is sold out! Limited to 1,600 riders. No day-of-event registration. Very scenic, 25-mi rolling, 50- or 63-mi rolling-hilly, 75- or 103-mi hilly, on low-traffic roads; 1,150 - 6,900 ft climbing. Baltimore Bicycle Club

Sat. Sept. 9, 2017, Sourland Spectacular, Skillman, NJ. Ride 26-63 mi; all routes include climbing, as Sourland Mountain is beautiful, but not flat. New for 2017, a flat 5-mi route is available. Benefits the Sourland Conservancy.

Sun. Sept. 10, 2017, Scenic Schuylkill Century, AIM Academy, Miquon, PA. Start on River Road between Manayunk and Conshohocken, with free on-site parking and the Miquon SEPTA station across the street. Sun. Sept. 10, 2017, Thompson Bucks County Classic Cyclosportif, Doylestown, PA. Ride 31 or 60 mi. Held in conjunction with the Thompson Bucks County Classic Criterium men's and women's professional races, amateur race, Lenape Scorcher highwheel bicycle race, and the Doylestown Arts Festival.

Fri.-Sat. Sept. 15-16, 2017, BR2RB Bike-a-Thon, Quarryville, PA to Rehoboth Bay, DE. One-way rides, Fri: 80, 125 or 145 mi; Sat: 50, 80, 125 or 145 mi. Return transportation is provided. Benefits Black Rock Retreat.

Sat. Sept. 16, 2017, Foster 100, Philadelphia, PA. Ride 100 mi from Philadelphia to Cape May, NJ, one-way. Every cyclist rides with an assigned team based on experience and ability level. Team Foster raises money to partner service dogs with tri-state area veterans suffering from combat-related disabilities.

Sat. Sept. 16, 2017, Jersey Devil Century, Centerton, NJ. Ride 25 or 50 mi on flat terrain in the morning and afternoon; routes can be combined for 50, 75 or 100 mi. South Jersey Wheelmen [Editor's comment: Uncertain about riding 50 miles? Ride the morning 25-mi loop, eat a good lunch at the start location, and then decide to either call it quits or ride the afternoon 25-mi loop.]

Sat. Sept. 16, 2017, RCDCU Bike-A-Thon for Prostate Cancer, Franklin Middle School, Somerset, NJ. Ride 3, 10, 30 or 50 mi. Benefits the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Foundation.

Sat. Sept. 16, 2017, Ride for a Reason, Delaware City, DE. Ride 25 or 50 mi or run 5k through the flat, scenic terrain of Delaware City. Benefits atTAcK addiction and the Mike Clark Legacy Foundation.

Sat. Sept. 16, 2017, River Towns Ride & Festival, Delaware City, DE. Ride one or more 10-mi (one-way) segments between Delaware City and New Castle, starting at noon. (Originally announced for Sept. 23. Updated 7/31/17.)

Sat. Sept. 16, 2017, Wyebrook Bike Tour, Wyebrook Farm, Honey Brook, PA. Ride 10, 31 or 62 mi through Amish Country.

Sun. Sept. 17, 2017, Bike the Beach, Jennings Beach, Fairfield, CT. Ride 10, 20, or 45 mi on flat-to-rolling terrain, or 62 mi, flat to hilly. Start from the beach and ride through up to five historic New England towns on the Connecticut side of Long Island Sound. All of the routes pass by scenic beaches. Benefits people with developmental disabilities through the Probus Club of Greater Bridgeport.

Sun. Sept. 17, 2017, Breakthrough Bike Challenge, Oley Valley, PA. Ride 1 (children's ride), 12, 25 or 51 mi. Benefits Penn Medicine’s Abramson Cancer Center.

Sun. Sept. 17, 2017, Country Roads Bicycle Tour, Warwick, NY. Ride 10, 25, 43 or 64 mi on uncrowded roads through Orange County in New York’s Hudson Valley. Benefits Catholic Charities of Orange County, NY, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, and the Sanctuary for Animals.

Sun. Sept. 17, 2017, Library IV Ride for the Sunshine Foundation, Williamstown, NJ. Ride 31 or 46 mi. Enjoy a complimentary buffet at the Library IV restaurant after the ride. Benefits the Sunshine foundation.

Sun. Sept. 17, 2017, Ride for Clean Rivers (formerly Tour de Talbot), Chesapeake College, Wye Mills, MD. Ride 20, 35 or 62 mi on back roads of Talbot and Queen Anne's Counties on the Eastern Shore. Benefits the Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy.

Sun. Sept. 17, 2017, Ride for McBride, Tall Cedars Picnic Grove, Hamilton Township, NJ. Ride 10, 25 or 50 mi. Benefits the Joseph McBride Memorial Award in the Social Policy & Practice Department at the University of Pennsylvania.

Sun. Sept. 17, 2017, Three Creek Century, Newville, PA. Ride 25, 50, 75 or 100 mi on lightly-traveled roads along and over the scenic Conodoguinet, Yellow Breeches and Big Spring creeks. Take the South Mountain Challenge option on the 50-mi route, where riders climb 1,000-ft up Big Flat. Or ride 18-mi on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail. Harrisburg Bicycle Club

Sat. Sept. 23, 2017, GameDay Metric Tour, Wayne A. Grube Memorial Park, Northampton, PA (near Bethlehem). Ride 30 or 62 mi. This is a charity bike ride before the Penn - Lehigh football game in Bethlehem, PA. The tour raise funds to provide academic scholarships to deserving incoming college students.

Sept. 23-24, 2017, Bike MS: City to Shore, Cherry Hill, NJ, to Ocean City, NJ. Multiple start locations; ride 1 or 2 days, 25-180 mi total. Benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Sun. Sept. 24, 2017, Tom's Ride for Vickie's Angel Walk, Hellam, PA (east of York, PA). Ride 15, 30 or 60 mi on hilly terrain. Or ride the new 50-mi gravel loop. Pasta lunch after the ride. Register by 8/31 to receive a free T-shirt. Benefits Vickie's Angel Walk, providing financial assistance to families fighting cancer.

Sat. Sept. 30, 2017, Fall VeloFest, Valley Preferred Cycling Center (Trexlertown Velodrome), Breinigsville, PA. Outdoor swap meet. 8:30am to 2:00pm.

Sat. Sept. 30, 2017, Ride for the River, Pottstown, PA. Ride 16 or 40 mi, primarily on the Schuylkill River Trail. Held in conjunction with the Sly Fox Brewing Company's CAN JAM Music Festival. Benefits the Schuylkill River Greenway Association (SRGA), a 501(c)3 non-profit.

, Oley, PA. Ride 20, 40 or 60 mi through the scenic, low-traffic, hilly Oley Valley. Lasagna and shoo-fly pie at the finish. Berks County Bicycle Club

Sat. Sept. 30, 2017, Savage Century, Newark, DE. Ride 40, 60, 75 or 100 mi. The 40- and 60-mi routes have a few short climbs, while the major hills are on the 75- and 100-mi routes. White Clay Bicycle Club (WCBC)

Sun. Oct. 1, 2017, Bicycling Fall Classic, Valley Preferred Cycling Center (Trexlertown Velodrome), Breinigsville, PA. Ride 10, 25, 50 or 90 mi. Includes timing chips (with prizes for top climbers on the 50- and 90-mi courses), a Roubaix-style victory lap around the velodrome track, and a post-ride party with healthy lunch, free beer, live music. Sun. Oct. 1, 2017, Bikes and Beers Philadelphia, Yards Brewing, Philadelphia, PA. Ride 15 or 30 mi. Registration includes 2 Yards beers after the ride and a souvenir pint glass.

Sun. Oct. 1, 2017, Century for the Cure, Camp Riverbend, Warren, NJ. Ride 25, 40, 62 or 100 mi. $100 registration includes choice of rider jersey or event t-shirt and cycling socks; $500 fundraising minimum. Benefits the Cancer Institute of NJ.

Sun. Oct. 1, 2017, Lifeline 100, Millersville, MD. Ride 15- and 30-mi routes on paved trail only or 65- and 100-mi routes on road and paved trail through scenic Anne Arundel County including views of downtown Annapolis and the Severn River. Bicycle Advocates For Annapolis & Anne Arundel County ("BikeAAA").

Sun. Oct. 1, 2017, Pedal4Cam, Exton, PA. Three ride options: 1) 1-10 mi on the paved Uwchlan Trail and Struble Trail; 2) 20- or 45-mi on-road; 3) 5-, 8-, 12- or 16-mi off-road (MTB) in Marsh Creek State Park. Benefits the Cure4Cam Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Wed.-Sun. Oct. 4-8, 2017, Tour de Pines, various start locations in the Pinelands National Reserve, NJ. Five consecutive single-day (loop) bicycle tours of the scenic, low-traffic New Jersey Pinelands, 22-54 miles per day. Ride 1-5 days for one registration fee. This unusual event has a ride leader, but no road markings or SAG - read the F.A.Q. (PDF). Bring or buy your own food. The ride leader will average 11-13 mph, but faster groups will go off the front and follow the cue sheet. Benefits the Pinelands Preservation Alliance.

Oct. 6-8, 2017, Tour de Pink® East Coast, Philadelphia suburb to Long Branch, NJ. Options include a 100-mi ride and a one-day ride. Benefits the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), an organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Sat. Oct. 7, 2017, Adamstown Dirty Dozen Hill Climb, Adamstown, PA. Ride 63 mi, with 8,700-ft of climbing, 12 hills, 12 to 20% grade. The organizers say, "This is the hardest event you will ever ride". Pre-registration is mandatory.

Sat. Oct. 7, 2017, Black Bear Century, Delaware Water Gap, PA. Choice of 7 hilly routes, 32-107 mi, through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and High Point State Park, during peak fall foliage.

Sat. Oct. 7, 2017, MLAR Gran Fondo, Chester Springs, PA. Ride 12, 18, 31 or 62 mi on the beautiful country roads of Chester County, with up to 4 timed hill climbs, followed by a post-ride beer garden party. Fundraising is optional. Benefits Main Line Animal Rescue.

Oct. 7-8, 2017, Bike MS: Bike to the Bay, Dover, DE to Rehoboth Beach, DE. Multiple start locations; ride 1 or 2 days, 20-175 mi total. Benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Sun. Oct. 8, 2017, Bike for Bancroft, ARI at Bishops Gate, Mt. Laurel, NJ. Ride 5, 25, 45 or 65 mi through scenic Burlington County. Benefits Bancroft, a leading regional nonprofit provider of programs and services for individuals with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities and those in need of neurological rehabilitation.

Sun. Oct. 8, 2017, Bike4Beds Fall Event, Valley Preferred Cycling Center (Trexlertown Velodrome), Breinigsville, PA. Rescheduled from Sept. 3. Ride 30-mi gently rolling or 58/62-mi rolling-hilly with an optional climb up Hawk Mountain. Fundraising is optional. Sat. Oct. 14, 2017, Sea Gull Century, Salisbury University, Salisbury, MD. Ride 65 or 100 mi on the flat Eastern Shore of Maryland. 7,500 riders.

Sat. Oct. 14, 2017, PD500 Shake Off the Hills Challenge, Ludwig's Corner Horse Show Grounds, Glenmoore, PA. Ride 16, 40 or 62 mi through scenic, hilly Chester County. Benefits Shake It Off, Inc. for Parkinson’s disease research, a non-profit organization.

Oct. 14-15, 2017, Bike MS: Mason Dixon Challenge, Gettysburg, PA. Ride 1 or 2 days: 25 or 64 mi on Saturday, and 25 mi on Sunday. $150/$250 fundraising minimum; benefits the National MS Society.

Sun. Oct. 15, 2017, Covered Bridges Ride, Erwinna, PA. Enjoy the fall foliage of Central and Upper Bucks County with a choice of five routes: the family-friendly 20- and 30-mi flat routes use the towpath along the Delaware river, which is a fine-cinder and hard-packed dirt trail, for part of the ride, or the hilly 33-, 50- and 63-mi routes on paved roads. Sat. Oct. 21, 2017, Ride for the Animals, Wall, NJ. Ride the paved Allaire bike path up to 14 mi, or walk and bring your dog. Dress up as an animal; win prizes for best costumes. Benefits the Animal Protection League of NJ.

All distances are listed in miles ("mi"). To convert to metric: 1 mi = 1.6 km; 1 km = 0.62 mi. 31 mi = Half Metric Century (50 km); 62 mi = Metric Century (100 km). All rides are on-road tours unless noted off-road. All events provide water stops, cue sheets, marked route, and SAG support, unless noted, but SCU is not responsible for the services provided at events on this calendar. All rides return to the starting location unless marked "one-way". Two-day events are Saturday-Sunday and three-day events are Friday-Sunday unless marked otherwise. There are no ride leaders for these events, and you ride at your own pace.

Suburban Cyclists Unlimited does not list other clubs' rides that conflict with the major SCU events (May 20, 2017 - Quad County Metric). Commercial tours are not listed other than from sponsors of SCU or at the discretion of the editor. Indoor "spinning" events and randonnee events are not listed on this calendar.

Suburban Cyclists Unlimited is a recreational bicycle club, and we do not support or promote racing. Triathlons, duathlons, amateur races, criteriums and time trials are not listed on this web site.
