E-List

Don’t miss out on last minute changes to the rides, or information from other cyclists - get yourself on the E-list! To join the E-list, you need access to email and a valid email address.

The E-list moved to Yahoo! Groups as of 4/4/2005. Current subscribers received an e-mail invitation to join the new list.

To subscribe to the E-list, please see the instructions in the newsletter or contact an officer of the club.

One advantage of Yahoo! Groups is that we have four options for mail delivery:

  1. Individual e-mails - Send individual e-mail messages, just like the old e-list.
  2. Daily digest - Combine the day's mail into one message. Receive no more than one e-mail per day from SCU.
  3. Special notices - Only send important update e-mails from the group moderator.
  4. No e-mail - Don't send any e-mail. Messages can be read on the group's web site.

Options 2, 3, and 4 let you stay informed without being inundated with messages. You can easily change your SCU E-list preferences. Log onto Yahoo! Groups and click on Edit Membership. To use this and other E-list web site features, you must set up a Yahoo profile.

No attachments to messages are allowed on the new E-list. A member with a Yahoo profile can use the file upload/download feature to distribute files.

List Usage Guidelines

The following list of usage guidelines was prepared by Leigh Weber (list manager) and ratified by the Executive Committee. Since the email list is not moderated, your compliance with these guidelines will ensure that the list is not abused and maintains a high signal-to-noise ratio. Thanks!

  1. The SCU E-List is for SCU club activities and cycling related posts. Please post ride reports, upcoming rides and highlights of club activities. We all want to find out about all the great things going on!

  2. Messages should be short, text only, and to the point. If you have photos, long articles, or other lengthy material, do NOT put it into your message. You may send a link to the material or offer to mail it to anyone who is interested.

  3. The Subject line should warn if the message is not of general interest. Examples:
    FOR SALE:  Trek xxxx
    HIKING:  Sunday, 4/29
    SOCIAL:  Bowling Night

  4. Please REPLY to the sender (our list default), NOT to the list, unless you're certain that several hundred people need your reply.

  5. Do NOT flame or argue with people on the list. Contact the person privately or ask the List Manager to deal with the situation.

  6. Do NOT send 'TEST' messages.

  7. Do NOT send chain letters, virus warnings, good Samaritan notices, e-mail surveys, etc. They are NOT club activities, clog email systems, and waste everyone's time.

  8. DO pause before you send an email. Does it say what you mean? Could it give offense to someone? Does it follow the rules? Change it BEFORE you send it!

  9. Contact the list manager, or any EC member, if you have questions or suggestions.

  10. Attachments to messages are blocked. If you try to send a message with an attachment, your message will be distributed without the attachment.

  11. "Sign" your messages with your first and last name. Do NOT hide behind a screen name or alias.

  12. Please do NOT "Reply All" in response to junk mail on the E-list. Your reply just sends another off-topic message to the everyone on the list.

  13. Announcements for dating services, chat rooms, and adult entertainment are prohibited. The senders of these types of messages will be banned from the list.
