Quad County Metric
Saturday, May 10, 2008

The Quad County Metric is SCU's premiere spring ride, soon to enter its eighth year. It begins at beautiful Green Lane Park in upper Montgomery County, and continues through Berks, Lehigh, and Bucks Counties before returning to the park.

On Saturday, May 10, 2008, start from scenic Green Lane Park, Deep Creek and Snyder Roads, Green Lane, PA 18054, and ride 21, 31, 45, 53, 68, or 76 miles at your own pace on low-traffic back roads. The 21-mile route avoids the longest climb and is suitable for casual riders. The longer routes are on rolling to hilly terrain. The 53- and 76-mile routes include the 8-mile "Intensive Climbing Unit" extra-hilly segment with 1,200 ft additional climbing. A flat 10-mile ride on the unpaved Perkiomen Trail is also available.

Registration: $20 (SCU members), $25 (non-members), by May 8. Registration on May 10 at Green Lane Park will be $20 (SCU members), $30 (non-members). Children under 12 ride free, under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Directions

Detour at Green Lane Park: The steel bridge at the Snyder Road entrance to Green Lane Park is closed. If coming South on Route 29, pass the bridge, continue 1 mile, and turn right on Deep Creek Rd. If coming North on Route 29, look for the "Bike Ride" sign, and make a left turn onto Deep Creek Rd. See detour map. The detour does not change the bike routes.

If you have a navigation system or mapping software, programming it for "Deep Creek Road and Snyder Road, Green Lane, PA 18054" will get you to the closest intersection to the start location. Most maps still have the old name for Green Lane Park: Upper Perkiomen Valley County Park.

Although SCU provides excellent SAG support, why wait for SAG if you get a flat tire? Learn how to repair a flat with these articles: 1, 2 (video), 3, 4, 5 (video).  Google "bicycle flat tire repair video" for more.
